The Election Tribunal on Friday dismissed as inadmissible a petition against the acceptance of the nomination papers of MQM-Pakistan leader Syed Mustafa Kamal for a by-election.
The head of the tribunal, Justice Agha Faisal, dismissed the petition filed by citizen Pervaiz Akhtar against the acceptance of Kamal's nomination papers for NA-247 by-election.
The petitioner contended that Kamal was affiliated with two parties at the same time: the chairman of the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) while he submitted papers as a candidate of MQM-Pakistan. The petition sought the paper's rejection under sections 202 and 203 of the Political Parties Act.
Justice Faisal also took up a petition against the acceptance of the nomination papers of MQM-Pakistan leader Arshad Vohra for the NA-244 by-election on similar grounds.
Both petitions were rejected.
