After the first electric bus fleet of the country, the Sindh government is pushing for early completion of the country's first biogas-powered bus service, said Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Thursday.

He was chairing a meeting of the Trans Karachi Board of Directors was held to discuss the progress of the biogas-powered Red Line Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Project.

Transport Secretary Abdul Halim Sheikh, Justice (R) Shaiq Usmani, Rukhsana Rahoja, Shumail Sikandar, Iqbal Lalani, Administrator Karachi Dr Saifur Rehman participated in the meeting. NED University Vice Chancellor Professor Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi participated in the meeting through a video link.

Memon said that the speed of work of the BRT Red Line project should be accelerated. "We cannot afford any delay in the BRT Red Line project", he added. The citizens are facing severe difficulties due to the project. The government wants the project to be completed within the stipulated time.

The provincial minister said that KMC had handed the land to Trans Karachi for the bus depot construction in Alladin Park. The construction of the bus depot and biogas plant of the project should also be started as soon as possible.

He said that the first electric bus service in Pakistan has started from the city of Karachi and BRT Red Line will be Pakistan's first biogas project.

Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's vision is to improve the transport system in the province, and the Transport Department is working day and night on transport projects across Sindh, including Karachi.
