RAWALPINDI:

The Sustainable Division of the Forest Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), has developed another project to provide eco-friendly modern stoves to all the residents of four mountainous tehsils in the district, a spokesperson shared on Tuesday.

Under the project, the families residing in Kahuta, Kallar Syedan, Murree and Kotli Sattian, that use wood as fuel, will be given 200 modern stoves for free to ensure the protection of the forest environment, the official maintained.

The Forest Department Sustainable Division Admin Officer Muhammad Noman informed that these stoves are designed using the latest technology that consumes 50 per cent less firewood than normal stoves while producing 40 per cent more fire. He added that these eco-friendly stoves can also be used to provide heat for up to four hours.

Noman further shared that 300 such stoves were distributed in the related tehsils on an experimental basis which was a successful initiative, therefore, the government has decided to expand the programme. Federal Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul will be invited as the special guest in the project’s inauguration ceremony, the spokesperson also informed.
