S Punjab receives rain as cold snap continues

Spells are expected to cause severe damage to wheat crop and mango orchards

MULTAN: The winter season is not over yet as heavy rains continue in southern Punjab, including Multan district. The rain is expected to cause severe damage to wheat crop and mango orchards.

Two people, including a woman, were killed due to electrocution, The Express Tribune learnt.

Rudh Kohi drain near Rajanpur was inundated and the flow of water has reached 38,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second).

The supply system of Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) was disrupted and hundreds of feeders tripped. The weather became cloudy in Multan city and surrounding areas from the morning amid strong winds.

At least two killed as rain lashes Karachi

After 7am, heavy rain began with a thunderstorm, which resulted in the return of cold weather. The rainfall continues in the region with intervals.

The meteorological department said there is a possibility of cloudy and rainy weather in certain places with strong winds today as well.

On Wednesday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 14 degrees Celsius. Rainfall continues in many cities including Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Rajanpur, Tibba Sultanpur, Vehari, Liaquatpur, Khanpur, Sadiqabad, Taunsa Sharif, Yazman, Cholistan and Mianwali.

The rain threatens to damage the wheat fields and mango orchards.

A 16-year-old student named Syed Hassan Raza, who stood at a roadside in Bahawalpur, was killed after being electrocuted.

Heavy rains continue overnight in Rajanpur city and surrounding areas.

Karachi experiences first spell of winter rain

Along with the dropping temperature, rivers and streams are overflowing in the Koh-e-Suleman mountains due to the rain.

According to the Flood Control Room, the flow of water in the Rudh Kohi drain has reached 36,000 cusecs, Kaha Sultan rainfall drain 26,000 cusecs, in Chachhar stream 4,000 cusecs, whereas 6,000 cusecs of water is flowing in Suri stream.

A state of high alert has been announced by the district administration and the situation in all surrounding areas is being monitored. A woman along with two cows died of electrocution in the area of Mohammad Pur Diwan.
