Opposition slams ‘corruption’ in Balochistan education dept

Warns of launching campaign against provincial govt

QUETTA: Opposition parties have alleged irregularities in the Balochistan education department’s appointments and threatened to launch a campaign against the provincial government.

“The Chief Minister Inspection Team (CMIT) ordered an investigation into the education department’s corrupt practices, but there have been no results so far,” Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Malik Sikandar Advocate, the leader of the opposition in the provincial assembly, said on Tuesday while addressing a news conference, accompanied by Nawab Aslam Raisani and Malik Naseer Shahwani.

“The provincial government has betrayed the innocent people of Balochistan,” he added.

Minister urges quality education for progress

Sikandar claimed that the opposition’s basic rights were being denied by the provincial government.

“The provincial government has been claiming that there is transparency in its affairs. However, the inspection team has done nothing about the blatant corruption in the education department.”

Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) parliamentary leader Malik Naseer Shahwani said government jobs were being given to others instead of locals.

“Secretaries are being replaced after every two months. How can someone claim transparency in government jobs,” he added.

Shahwani maintained that Chief Minister Jam Kamal had been stressing on the need for good governance since coming to power but corruption and lack of governance have increased under his leadership.

He added that 266 people in the education department were appointed without any test or interview.

The opposition leaders urged the chief minister to take immediate action over the “brazen violation of merit” in the appointments.

BNP-M’s Sanaullah Baloch said the provincial assembly was completely ignoring the issue of Gwadar’s Master Plan.

“Opposition members have been completely sidelined in all provincial affairs,” he added.
