QUETTA: Expressing concerns over delimitations in Balochistan, National Assembly Member Agha Hassan Baloch has urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure impartial demarcations so that local government polls could be held smoothly.

In a statement the other day, the MNA rejected the last delimitation in the province as “unfair”. Hassan said: “The ECP should make sure impartial delimitations in Balochistan so the local government elections could be held in productive environment”.

The Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) information secretary said: “We had informed the ECP regarding previous delimitations during general elections but no one took serious action over our demands”. He added that people in various constituencies had also lodged their complaints with the authorities concerned.

“We met with district elections commissioner and requested him to launch free and fair delimitations because there were such union councils in the province having populations over millions of people,” the MNA said, stressing that Baloch areas should not be neglected.

He also said the BNP-M has been striving for the rights of the people of Balochistan and would continue raising concerns of masses.

Meanwhile, a local leader of the BNP-M, Mir Khursheed Jamaldini, while meeting the deputy commissioner of Nushki, said the delimitation process in the district should be transparent. He advised that Ahmadwal area must be divided into two union councils.

The BNP-M leader said earlier delimitation process was not fair. “Injustice meted out with the people of Noski in last time delimitation process”. As the delimitation process is taking place before the elections of local bodies, therefore, it should be based on transparency, Jamaldini demanded.

He said: “We don’t want any UC to be sidelined in the delimitation process”. He added Nushki municipal should be given the status of corporation so that the issues of people could be addressed at their door step.
