LAHORE: Four young men were killed in a road accident in Cavalry Ground on early Monday. The victims, identified as Arsalan, 19, Waleed Butt, 22, Danish, 18, and Farveen, 17, all friends, went for a drive after midnight. As they reached Cavalry Bridge Flyover, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it turned over. The vehicle rolled over and skidded towards the other side of the road where it collided with an oncoming car.

Resultantly, all the victims inside the car received fatal injuries. They were shifted to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced two as dead on arrival.

The others were admitted to the hospital for treatment. However, Arsalan also succumbed to injuries in the morning. The fourth victim also passed away at noon.

Danish and Farveen were brothers. Three of the victims were college and university-going students, while the fourth was working at a job.

Funeral prayers of the brothers were offered on Cavalry Ground. Emotions ran high as relatives of the victims grieved over the loss of their loved ones. Police said they were investigating the matter further.

In April 2016, two laborers identified as Zaman and Abdullah were killed when a speeding car ran over them on the same Cavalry Bridge. The speeding vehicle was being driven by a teenage boy while his female friend was on the passenger seat.

In October 2016, four youngsters were killed when a speeding car hit a pole after losing control in Nawab Town. At least six friends were riding the car and they were returning home after having breakfast.

Overall in 2017, more than 420 people were killed, while thousands suffered injuries in road crashes.
