Sharif’s children, son-in-law: NAB team delivers arrest warrants at Jati Umra

LAHORE: A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team on Friday visited the residence of deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif to deliver notices of arrest warrants issued against his children and son-in-law.

The move came in the wake of the failure of Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz and her husband Mohammad Safdar to appear in the court during last hearing.

Noting their absence, Judge Muhammad Bashir had issued the bailable warrants, asking NAB to ensure that the warrants were delivered to the defendants.



“A NAB team visited Jati Umra – the residence of Sharif – today to hand written orders over to the Sharif family,” an official told The Express Tribune.

“Sharif’s principal secretary acknowledged the receipt,” he added.

Earlier, notices for the bailable arrest warrants of Sharif’s three children and his son-in-law were sent to their London addresses, Express News reported on Thursday. A copy of the notices is also sent to their Lahore addresses.

The notices to Sharif’s children have been sent through the Pakistan High Commission London, which carry their Avenfield, Park Lane, address. According to a private TV channel, the notices had been received by the High Commission.



Sharif was disqualified from holding public office by the Supreme Court on July 28 in the Panamagate case due to concealed assets. The apex court also ordered the country’s top graft buster, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), to file corruption references against Sharif, his two sons, daughter, and son-in-law.

On the last date of hearing in the accountability court, Sharif himself appeared before the judge but none of his children did.

Maryam, Hussain, Hassan and Safdar are currently in London with the ailing Kulsoom Nawaz, Nawaz's spouse.

Maryam had earlier advised her father to not appear before NAB courts, calling the proceedings against the family a ‘farce’.

Meanwhile, NAB also submitted its third report about the progress on references against the Sharif family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to the Supreme Court.

The sealed report was dispatched to the monitoring judge of the apex court. The list of witnesses has also been learnt after the finance minister has been charge-sheeted.



NAB Prosecutor-General Waqas Qadeer Dar met the monitoring judge on Thursday and informed him about the difficulties NAB prosecutors had been facing while entering the Supreme Court.

According to sources, the submitted report also includes order-sheets of the proceedings of the accountability court and the copies of the warrants issued against Sharif’s children.

The monitoring judge was also provided with the list of 28 evidences of the prosecution. The report also informed the judge about the proceedings made so far about the finance minister.
