SUKKUR:

Every year the residents of Sukkur are given a break from the mundane when a flower show is arranged outside the ICON departmental store near Masoom Shah Minara.

The owner of the store, Aamir Ghauri, is a flower enthusiast and has been organising the flower exhibition outside his store for the last four years. The week-long event attracts a large number of citizens, especially students and women, who take keen interest in the multitude of colourful flowers on display. To add a touch of laughter to the botanical exhibition, Disney's Mickey Mouse made an appearance to take pictures with the giddy children.

Sukkur city looks like Moen Jo Daro sometimes, said Mahira, a mother who visited the exhibition, referring to the barren landscape and lack of vegetation. "This place seems out of this world," she marveled.

"I grow many flowers at home, which provides a healthy atmosphere," said Attaullah, a Shikarpur resident. "Flowers make us feel happy and forget our tensions, at least for the time being," he added. "Most of the parks and other open spaces have been allotted to the builder mafia, due to which it has become very difficult for the people to go out," said Aneela, a visitor at the exhibition.
