The remand has been extended for seven days after the investigation officer sought more time for interrogation. Her killing caused turmoil in political circles as PTI chief Imran Khan accused his MQM counterpart Altaf Hussain of manipulating the murder.
Two suspects, Zahid Abbas Zaidi and Rashid, were arrested months after the incident. On their tip-off, four other suspects, Tariq Nawaz, Junaid Bukhari, Asif alias Ganja and Irfan alias Lamba, were named as absconders in the case.
Two years later, Rangers revealed the involvement of Kalim in the murder. Following the reported confession, he was handed over the Gizri police as the murder took place within their jurisdiction. According to the investigators, Kalim has confessed to the crime. The next hearing of the case will take place on April 1.
