The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed on Tuesday the managing director of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) to ensure immediate restoration of water supply to the National Cricket Stadium, Karachi.
Headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, a division bench also directed the water utility's chief to submit his reply to the court within two weeks, explaining why the supply to the stadium was suspended during the ongoing event.
The cricket board's lawyers, Ravi R Panjani and Syed Maqbool Shah, said a water pipeline was damaged during the construction of a flyover in 2006. They said a new pipeline was laid down in 2007 for which the stadium's management was regularly paying bills to the board.
Price to pay: SC calls KWSB’s bluff on water ‘shortage’
They pointed out that the water board had recently claimed that there were arrears of Rs2.5 million lying outstanding against the stadium, which were not cleared. On the basis of this false claim, KWSB had disconnected water supply to the stadium, said the lawyers.
