KARACHI:

Three models were proposed at a high-level meeting of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) on Wednesday to expand an integrated sanitation system to all districts of the province beyond Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana and Sukkur. Sindh Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah presided the meeting.

A comprehensive briefing was given on the proposed operational framework aimed at developing a modern and sustainable waste management system across Sindh.

The Director Monitoring and Evaluation presented three models - Hybrid, Hybrid Plus and Local - stating that these had been designed in line with modern requirements, ensuring cost-effectiveness and active involvement of local government institutions in planning, strategy and implementation.

It was informed that the system could be operated at multiple levels, including through local committees or municipal bodies across the province under a unified management mechanism.

Dividing operations into smaller units at the town level would enhance monitoring and efficiency. The meeting was further told that town administrations could be supported through a modern Complaint Management System (CMS) to facilitate performance tracking and oversight.

Proposals were also discussed regarding the implementation period of the projects, suggesting models spanning 3+1 or 4+1 years to ensure improved service delivery and accountability.
