Sharif phoned KP Chief Minister Pervaiz Khatak to express solidarity following the loss of life and property across the province.

“The Punjab government stands by those affected by the earthquake in the KP. We will not abandon our brothers and sisters alone in these testing times,” Sharif said. “The Punjab government is ready to send medical teams and machinery for rescue and relief activities,” he said.
The chief minister said the departments concerned had been ordered to immediately send truckloads of relief items to the quake-hit areas in the KP.
Call 1129 for help
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority set up a helpline 1129 on Monday to provide assistance to the quake victims.
Prisoners cried for help as guards bolted
A spokesman for the PDMA said the authority had sought a report from district administrations on the losses incurred. He said all government departments would remain alert to deal with any emergency. “An emergency has been declared in hospitals across the province. Leaves of doctors and other medical staff have been cancelled.”
He said district administrations had been asked to set up emergency desks that would operate round the clock. He said the government had announced a financial assistance of Rs500,000 each for the family of the deceased and Rs100,000 for those injured in the quake.
“District administrations will be bound to make the payment within 24 hours through government representatives.”
No lessons learnt after 40th quake
Health Department
Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique chaired a meeting at Civil Secretariat on Monday to review the situation following the earthquake.
Health Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik, Health Services Director General Zahid Pervaiz and Additional Health Secretary (technical) Salman Shahid attended the meeting.
Rafique ordered that those injured in the catastrophe be provided timely treatment.

He phoned the Rawalpindi health EDO, the Rawalpindi DHQ Hospital medical superintendent and the Sargodha and Chakwal EDOs and inquired about situation in their areas.
