Benefits of registration with EOBI highlighted

KARACHI: The government has taken revolutionary steps which will help increase the number of registered industrial and trade organisations besides employees in EOBI schemes, said Employees’ Old-age Benefits Institution (EOBI) Chairman Zafar Iqbal Gondal.

Addressing a seminar organised by EOBI on ‘benefits of registration with EOBI,’ Gondal informed the audience that benefits of worker welfare fund and worker welfare board were now linked to their registration with EOBI. Furthermore, he said that self-employed individuals could also benefit from the schemes of EOBI by registering themselves with it and paying Rs420 per month.

At present, 317,506 people are drawing pensions from the institution every month, of which 202,801 are old-age pensioners, 5,041 are invalidity pensioners and 109,664 are survivors of deceased workers.

Gondal said that the institution has registered more than 4.4 million insured workers of 7,650 industrial, commercial and other establishments and has disbursed Rs40.6 billion among pensioners since EOBI’s inception.

EOBI has also established a helpline for the convenience of employers, pensioners and their heirs for lodging complaints regarding delay in pension payment.
