SARGODHA:

Senior citrus expert Chaudhry Abdul Khaliq said on Wednesday that the launch of the Sargodha Citrus Development Programme would help increase the production of Kinnow, with its export expected to bring in more foreign exchange.

While addressing a ceremony here, attended by the Director of Agriculture, the Director General of the Citrus Research Institute, and representatives of farmers and exporters, he outlined the programme's key components. He said the initiative included the upgradation of the Citrus Research Institute, the establishment of a new laboratory, the launch of a website to raise awareness among Kinnow growers, the enhancement of nurseries, and the establishment of a new Citrus Research Institute in District Bhakkar. The total cost of the project was estimated at Rs70 million, he added.

The expert emphasised the need to prepare a comprehensive list of Kinnow growers across the division and forward it to the chief minister's office for necessary implementation. He highlighted that Sargodha's Kinnow held a prominent position globally and urged citrus experts to contribute to better production outcomes.
