Action will be taken against headmasters of schools with poor pass percentages in Secondary Schools Certificate examinations. A spokesman of the Education Department said this on Sunday.
He said results in many public schools had been dismal. “Data of the exam results is being compiled and action will be taken against headmasters of schools performing poorly,” he said.
He said last year, the Education Department had stopped annual increments of heads of those schools with less than 10 per cent pass percentage.
He said similar action would be taken against heads of schools this year. Besides, he said, fines will also be imposed on them.
He said the Education Department took matriculation results very seriously. “They reflect the teaching standards,” he said.
