Prince George has turned two and his parents -- the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge -- initiated celebrations by sharing a photo of the little prince on Twitter.

The photo, which was released by Kensington Palace ahead of the little prince's birthday on July 22 -- shows Prince George smiling in the arms of his father, Prince William.

The picture was taken on July 5 in the gardens at Sandringham House on the Queen's Norfolk estate following Princess Charlotte christening, reported BBC.

The royal parents, William and Kate Middleton, are likely to celebrate the occasion with an intimate affair at the Anmer Hall, their Norfolk home, as William is still settling into his new job as an East Anglian Air Ambulance helicopter pilot.

"This photograph captures a very happy moment on what was a special day for the duke and duchess and their family. They are very pleased to share this picture as they celebrate Prince George's second birthday," said a Kensington Palace spokesperson.

As a part of the series of official photographs taken by Mario Testino on July 5, Prince George was photographed peering into Princess Charlotte's pram after his sister's christening at the Church of St Mary Magdalene.
