'Reacher' star trades scripted action for raw endurance
Alan Ritchson steps into survival spotlight with Netflix's new reality format

Actor Alan Ritchson is preparing to take on a markedly different roleone that swaps scripted spectacle for real-world gritas he gears up to headline a new unscripted survival competition series for Netflix.
Widely recognised for his performance in 'Reacher', Ritchson will anchor the as-yet-untitled project, marking his debut as both host and executive producer on a format centred on raw endurance rather than narrative-driven drama.
In the series, Ritchson will lead a group of well-known personalitiescontent creators and public figures accustomed to the spotlightinto a bare-bones setting where everyday conveniences vanish almost instantly.
For Netflix, the move aligns with familiar territory. The streaming giant has steadily carved out a niche in the survival genre, with titles such as Outlast and the licensed hit 'Alone' attracting reliable viewership.
Ritchson's participation, however, brings a distinct edge to the format. There is also a sense of coming full circle. Well before his rise through action-driven roles and 'Reacher', Ritchson had a brief stint on American Idol more than 20 years ago.
Production is being handled by Bunim/Murray Productions, a firm known for its extensive experience in reality and competition programming. Alongside Ritchson, executive producers include Julie Pizzi and Jay Bienstock, with Bienstock also serving as showrunner.
Despite an already crowded schedulewith 'Reacher' set to return for another season and multiple film projects in developmentRitchson appears to be embracing the series as a serious undertaking rather than a side venture.
Earlier, the 'Reacher' star drew attention for less favourable reasons following an alleged altercation in his neighbourhood outside Nashville, with a viral video placing the incident under scrutiny. The footage, first obtained by TMZ, appears to show Ritchson exchanging blows with a man identified as Ronnie Taylor.
The scene is visibly chaotic, with two childrenbelieved to be the actor'snearby as events unfold. The clip has since circulated widely, bringing the episode into sharper public focus.
