LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Ejaz Chaudhry said on Tuesday Punjab Police’s behaviour amounted to an insult to citizens.

“The manner in which policemen stripped and beat two boys in broad daylight reflects police’s attitude,” Chaudhry told party workers at his office. He said Monday’s incident was not the first of its kind.  “The khadim-i-aala [the chief minister] will take notice, form a committee, suspend the SHO concerned and think that his job done,” he said. He said police’s performance was on the decline.

“They seem to take their reputation for brutality as a matter of pride,” said PTI leader Yasmin Rashid. She said harassing unarmed civilians in the streets was a stigma for police.

PTI leader Andleeb Abbas said the recent incident of brutality did not come as a surprise.
