KARACHI:

The Sindh Assembly also passed unanimously a resolution to protect temples, churches, cremation grounds and other worship places of minorities by taking action against encroachers and the land mafia occupying them.

This demand came after a resolution was moved by MQM MPA Dewan Chand Chawala. “We are in serious trouble because the land mafia have encroached upon our cremation grounds,” he said. “No town and city is spared from this menace.” He also suggested the government release funds for the reconstruction and renovation of the holy places of minorities.

Meanwhile, PPP’s Mukesh Kumar Chawla pointed out that the government has broken all past records of development projects for minorities in Sindh. “Around Rs2.5 billion have been allocated in this budget,” he said, adding that Rs500 million were allocated for Sadh Belo in Sukkur. “We are going to setup closed-circuit television cameras in all the minorities’ places of worship at a cost of Rs500 million.”

In another resolution moved by PML-F parliamentary leader Nand Kumar, the assembly appreciated the Sindh government’s efforts in appointing 2,000 cops belonging to the minorities to protect their holy places. They demanded that these efforts kick off immediately.
