Selling daughters: CM takes notice of Jirga
The chief minister directed the Larkana DIG to take action against the culprits
KARACHI:
Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has taken notice of a so-called jirga reportedly held by a leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party in the Garhi Hassan village, Thul taluka, Jacobabad, in which a farmer, Qadir Bux, was forced to sell his three daughters to pay Rs1.1 million to settle a dispute. The chief minister directed the Larkana DIG to take action against the culprits. “I will never allow such an inhumane act, which is not only contrary to the principles of human rights but also against the teachings of Islam,” he said. He directed the DIG to take action and report to him how such a gruesome jirga was held in the jurisdiction of the Thul police.
