People living in the surrounding areas of Bilawal House heaved a sigh of relief when the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation came forward late Tuesday night to remove the unauthorised barricades outside the residence of former president Asif Ali Zardari.
Talking about the concrete wall that still exists in the middle of the main thoroughfare, District South commissioner Salim Rajput said that the city administration has no plans to demolish it. "The wall is not creating any sort of hindrance for the public," he said. "It is for safety."
According to him, the barriers were removed by the city administration according to the policy of the Sindh government. "No law enforcement agency was involved in this action," Rajput told The Express Tribune. "This is an across-the-board action and we will remove all the barriers that are creating hurdles for the public."
Rajput confirmed that this action has not been taken on the demand of the Rangers. "Two weeks back, a meeting was held at CM House where it was decided that all the barriers will be removed."
