Dr Azhar challenged the results of the Sindh University’s syndicate elections in court on March 16. The senior civil judge of Jamshoro district issued notices to the respondents for hearing of the case on March 31. A hearing to order an injunction against the exercising of powers by the elected candidates in the syndicate will, however, be held on March 24.
Dr Pervez Pathan, Dr Arfana Mallah, Umeed Ali Rndh and Dr Hyder Ali Nizmani were elected to the syndicate to represent professors, associate professors, assistant professors and lecturers, respectively. In his petition, Shah raised two objections, including the use of serial numbers on the ballot papers and the decision to allow Prof Pathan and Dr Mallah to contest despite objections to their candidacy. According to him, Section 15 (III) of the varsity’s Election Statues, 1984, states that a ballot paper should be rejected if the identity of a voter is disclosed by any means.
