Sargodha Cantt police Station House Officer (SHO) Farooq Hasanat told The Express Tribune that armed men had stormed Darbar Astana Fazal where a Mehfil-e-Sama was taking place after Isha prayers, and fired at the Mutawalli (caretaker) of the Darbar. The assailants escaped on motorcycles after the attack.
Hasnat said that the attack left Mutawalli Fazal Qadri, his brother Brigadier Fazal Rabbani and a participant of the Mehfil-e-Sama Dr Ayub dead, while the six others suffered multiple bullet injuries.
The injured were rushed to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Sargodha where doctors were providing treatment to the wounded. The dead have been shifted to the mortuary pending a post-mortem.
The SHO added that the condition of two of the injured men was said to be serious.
Muhammad Ramzan, who witnessed the incident, said that the attack caused panic and caused participants of the event to run helter-skelter.
Upon learning of the incident, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir, District Police Officer (DPO) Raja Muhammad Basharat and a heavy contingent of police rushed to the site.
The RPO said that teams had been formed to trace the culprits and to ascertain the facts behind the attack.
SHO Cantt Sargodha police station said that the police had yet to receive a formal complaint about the incident, hence, a case of the incident had yet to be registered.

@Hari Om: Maybe Jinnah created Pakistan for the safety of non-muslims of subcontinent.
For a country claimed to have been founded to provide a safe haven for the Muslims of the Indian Sub-Continent, it is amazing that Muslims with regular frequency get killed by other Muslims over nothing more than petty differences in interpretation of the shared Muslim religion. What makes this even more staggering. Is that I can think of no other parallel case of similar magnitude where Buddhist kills Buddhist or Christian kills Christian or Hindu kills Hindu or Jews kill Jews over petty differences in interpretation of their respective Religions anywhere in the world over the past decade.
While I am guessing the attacked shrine was Sunni Barelvi, it is moot to point out that it is particularly ironic that Pakistan’s founder Mr. M.A. Jinnah would have risked life and limb for following the practices of his original Shia sect of Islam in today’s Pakistan.
Next I wait to hear the oft repeated statement that there is no such thing as intra Muslim sectarian killings in Pakistan as it is inconceivable that a Muslim can kill another Muslim as Islam is the Religion of Peace where even killing one person is considered as killing all humanity making instances like these killings, in Pakistani minds, a RAW / Mossad / CIA perpetrated act by India / Israel / USA to malign Islam and Pakistan.
