FAISALABAD:

Police on Tuesday claimed to have killed three proclaimed offenders (POs) in a shootout near Chak 36-GB. Three other POs managed to escape from the area.

City Police Officer (CPO) Dr Sohail Habib Tajik told The Express Tribune that Rodala Road police received a tip-off about the presence of six POs at a house in Chak 278-GB.

“A police team, headed by SHO Rodala Road, raided the house late on Monday night to arrest the outlaws.

The robbers fired shots at the police party and managed to escape from the scene on two motorcycles towards Chak 36-GB,” he said. “The police party alerted the Satiana Road police, who blocked the road leading to Chak 36-GB,” Tajik said. He said the policemen soon spotted two motorbikes coming towards them. “The policemen signalled the bikers to stop, but they started firing at the police.

When the policemen returned fire, the men riding one of the bikes were hit and fell down. Their accomplices on the other bike escaped,” the CPO said.

He said the deceased were identified as: Muhammad Ishaq alias Pappu, a resident of Chak 278-GB, Mumtaz alias Babu, a resident of Chak 278-GB and Abdul Ghafoor, a resident of Chak 92-RB. He said police had seized two AK-47s and a repeater gun from the spot. “All three were wanted in a number of murder, robbery and abduction for ransom cases,” he said.

“A special police team has been constituted, under the supervision of Jaranwala Superintendent Police (SP) Arif Shahbaz Wazeer to look for the three men who escaped,” the CPO said.
