Dangerous drive: Four killed in AJK road accident

The accident occurred while the vehicle was taking a sharp turn.

At least four people, including a woman, were killed and six others severely injured as an overloaded passenger jeep fell into a deep ravine near the remote mountainous town of Panag Shareef, some 160 kilometres from Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir late Thursday night.


According to Kotli Superintendent Police Muhammad Amin, the jeep, belonging to Sajid Nawaz, with 10 passengers on board, was on its way from Kotli to the hilltop village of Mariayan. The accident occurred while the vehicle was taking a sharp turn and skidded off the road, plunging into the ravine.

Four people were killed on the spot while the remaining six, including the driver, were critically injured. The official identified the deceased as Maulvi Abdul Qayyum, Fahmeeda Bibi, Sajad and Rustam and said police have shifted the injured to District Headquarters Hospital, Kotli where they are under treatment. Bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families after medico-legal formalities.
