FAISALABAD:

Former chief election commissioner of India Dr Manohar Singh Gill on Friday urged that ties between Pakistan and India need to be strengthened with dialogue, people-topeople contact and trade.

He was addressing a lecture on agricultural development, trade and bilateral relations at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

“Dialogue and people to people contact are imperative to shun differences between the nations,”said Gill. He said that in Indian Punjab, Mandi Board had been established under which 1,200 model agri markets are functioning, buying the farmers produce at their doorstep. It helped the farming community to get rid of exploitation by middlemen, he explained.

“A similar model in Pakistan would also help in addressing the problems of farmers.”
