“Comparative literature covering Urdu, Punjabi, Pashto, Balochi and Sindhi should be introduced in school syllabi to promote national harmony,” said Dr Satya Pal Anand, a noted linguist, naat narrator and poet.


He was addressing a ceremony organised in his honour by Punjab University Academic Staff Association at the Executive Club.

Anand said he said he had migrated to Pakistan when he was 16. He said educators must consider the international standing of Urdu and take measures to promote Urdu literature. Later, he read some of his poetry for the audience.

‘Threat of extinction’

VC Mujahid Kamran said on Friday that if efforts were not made to save wildlife, some of the rare species would die out.

He was addressing a ceremony at Lahore Zoo organised on the occasion of the adoption of a lion and a lioness by the Punjab University Department of Zoology.

Zoology Department Chairman Muhammad Akhtar said earlier, the PU had adopted two tigers and students did research on food, lifestyle and psyche of the animals. Wildlife DG Dr Shoaib Muhammad Akber thanked PU administration for their interest in saving wildlife.

Later, PU and Wildlife Department signed an MoU and the VC presented a cheque for Rs1.214 million to Wildlife Department.
