FAISALABAD:

Dozens of residents of Iqbal Colony on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against police’s failure to recover a woman who was kidnapped two weeks ago.

Aamir Sohail, one of the protestors, told the media that the woman, a resident of Street 6, Iqbal Colony, was abducted by her relative Noor Akram.

“We filed a complaint with Saddar police but they have not arrested the suspect or recovered the woman,” he said.

Sohail said Saddar police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Babar Ali was the investigation officer of the case. He alleged that the ASI had taken “favours” from the suspect and was not following up on the case. The protestors blocked the University Road and staged a sit-in in front of the civil secretariat.

They demanded that police immediately recover the kidnapped woman.

The protest ended when the Civil Lines Station House Officer assured the protestors that the matter would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He said police were looking for the kidnapped woman and the suspect. He said the allegations against police were baseless.

“The complainants should understand that the investigation process is complicated…sometimes it takes months to complete it,” he said.

He said police had found an “important clue” and believed the woman would be recovered soon.
