ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Council for Renewable Energy Technology (PCRET) in collaboration with Pak Oasis Private Limited, will initiate production of solar panels to help overcome the prevailing energy crisis in the country.

This venture is about working on an indigenous solution to promote Pakistani products and will require the technical skills of young engineers, an official said, thus creating massive job openings in all areas on an equal opportunity platform.

Director General PCRET, Khalid Islam, showed optimism at the prospects of solar energy growing in Pakistan and said “I feel in today’s time, energy self-sufficiency is exceedingly important for industrial development in any nation. Pakistan is a sun-friendly country and sun-availability is up to 16 hours on average”.

According to official sources, PCRET will soon initiate large scale production and marketing of renewable energy and electronic products in the country and will ensure optimal utilisation of all available resources and promote cost effective indigenous products.

In this regard, PCRET, STEDEC Technology Commercialisation Corporation of Pakistan, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), National Institute of Electronic (NIE), Telecom Industry of Pakistan (TIP), and the Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to design, develop, large scale production and marketing of Renewable Energy and Electronic Products.

Under the MoU, NIE and PCRET will design, develop and produce prototype of demand driven products and pass on the complete technical know-how to TIP, while STEDEC will undertake all financial and commercial aspects on behalf of PCRET and NIE.

TIP will be responsible for mass scale production and marketing of products designed and developed by NIE and PCRET.

A joint working group, with representation from all the four parties as well as of MoST and MoIT will select the products (already designed or to be designed) and prepare workable operational model and procedures for taking the products from initial stage to marketing level.
