A consumer court issued the proprietor of a catering company a notice for July 16 on a suit seeking damages of Rs550,000 for allegedly using a defective generator at a valima ceremony.
Petitioner Muhammad Humair said he had hired Aslam Sons Caterers and Event Managers Pvt Ltd for catering at a valima ceremony on April 5. He said the company was to organise the event in Wapda Town and was responsible for the catering, tents, food and supplying an electricity generator.
Humair said that the company did not follow through the agreement. The generator it had installed went out of order, he said, and 150 guests at the ceremony had to sit in the dark for over an hour. Humair said it had caused him great humiliation in front of his guests. The ceremony had been ruined because the company did not have a backup.

He said most guests at the event also suffered food poisoning from the food served by the company.
He prayed the court to direct the respondent to pay Rs500,000 along with Rs50,000 as counsel’s fee.
Despite several attempts to contact the respondent, no one responded from their land line phone number
