Rush driving: Nine killed, 47 injured in road accidents

A bus hostess was killed and 9 people were injured when a bus overturned after colliding with a truck.

Nine people were killed and 47 others were injured in several road accidents on Saturday.


In Faisalabad, a bus hostess was killed and nine passengers were injured when a private company’s bus over turned after colliding with a truck. The injured were taken to a hospital, where they were reported to be out of danger.

Police said the bus collided with a truck near Deputywala Interchange on Motorway in Chak Jhumra. The bus overturned. Ten people were injured and taken to Allied Hospital, where bus hostess Samra Adnan, 25, a resident of Chakwal, succumbed to her injuries.

The injured were identified as Suraiyya Bibi, Maria, Amara, Abdul Ghafoor, Ali Rehman, Sharif, Azhar, Waqar Ahmed and Hayat.

Some passengers who remained unharmed said that the bus driver had allegedly fallen asleep due to which the vehicle got out of his control and collided with the truck.

In another incident, four people were killed in a road accident. Two of them were brothers. The accident occurred at 11am. The accident occurred near Adda Ganiyana on Jhang-Bhakkar Road when a truck loaded with coal hit a QingQi rickshaw carrying four people. The rickshaw overturned and the coal fell on it, trapping the men underneath. Passers-by called Rescue 1122 and started removing the coal. By the time the men were pulled out, they were already dead. They were identified as rickshaw driver Shahid Mehmood, 30, a resident of Mustafabad in Jhang; Nadeem Abbas, 16, and his brother Qaisar Abbas, 24, residents of Malhoana Mor; and Dost Muhammad, 24, a resident of Bajour Agency.

The bodies were sent to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital.

Police said the witnesses’ accounts suggested that the truck, heading to Jhang from Athara Hazari, was speeding and applied sudden brakes to avoid a donkey cart and hit tithe rickshaw driving in the opposite direction. The truck driver fled the scene.



In Sargodha’s Hyderabad Thal area, four people were killed and 35 were injured in a bus-truck collision. The accident occurred at around midnight when a bus heading to Dera Ismail Khan from Raiwind, Lahore, collided with a truck carrying steel scrap. The injured passengers were taken to district headquarters hospital in Sargodha.

In Bhagtanwala, a car driver was injured after he hit a donkey cart near Shab toll plaza on Lahore Road. He was identified as Humayun Iftikhar, a resident of Chak 47, and was taken to a hospital, where doctors treating him said that he would likely survive.

In Ghukhar Mandi, two women were injured after being hit by car, in separate incidents. They were taken to a hospital, where doctors treating them said that one of them had a broken leg.

Rescue officials said that Bushra Begum,a resident of Jora, was injured after she was run over by a car. She and her daughter were crossing the road. The injured woman was taken to a hospital, where doctors treating her said that her left leg was broken.

Elsewhere, Naziran Bibi, a resident of Budha Rajada, was hit on Lahore Road. The driver of the car that hit her fled. She was taken to a hospital, where she was reported to be out of danger.
