KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court directed on Thursday the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) finance director, and the Sindh government’s finance secretary to explain why thousands of KMC employees had not been paid during the last couple of months.

Chief Justice Mushir Alam, who headed the bench, asked the officials to respond while hearing a petition that was filed by the KMC workers union. The union had taken the authorities to court after the employees, including fire brigade and sanitation workers, had not been paid for the last two to three months.

The SHC bench then decided to issue notices to the provincial finance secretary and KMC finance director, and asked them to submit their replies by January 25.
