KARACHI:

A peace march organised under the banner of the Human Rights Council of Pakistan was held on Sunday outside the Karachi Press Club, drawing participation from civil society members, political and social leaders, and a large number of citizens.

Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted the importance of peace at both global and regional levels, stressing that development and prosperity are not possible without stability. They emphasised the need for sustainable peace in the country and beyond.

The speakers also shed light on human rights violations caused by wars, shortages of medical facilities, and other humanitarian crises in conflict zones. They said Pakistan has historically played a constructive role in promoting peace in-ternationally and called for spreading a message of harmony across the world.

They urged diplomatic solutions to ongoing global tensions, including between the United States and Iran, and ex-pressed concern over conflicts and alleged atrocities in regions such as Lebanon and Palestine.

The international com-munity, they said, must take effective steps to prevent aggression and end wars.

Speakers further noted that war disproportionately affects lower and middle-income groups, leading to rising infla-tion, unemployment, and broader socio-economic challenges. They described inflation and loss of life as global issues requiring collective action.

The march concluded with a prayer for national prosperity, global peace, and the protection of humanity. Participants also paid tribute to Pakistan's civil and military leadership for their role in promoting peace efforts.

The march was led by HRCP representatives including Jamshed Hussain, senior Supreme Court Bar lawyer Yasin Azad, Dr Mahboob Nonari, Bashir Dars, Maryam Siddiqui, Tanzila Khurram, and others.
