A sub-inspector has been ordered to explain his behaviour in the court for allegedly torturing a trader while illegally keeping him in confinement at Landhi police station.
Sindh High Court’s Justice Shahid Anwar Bajwa also issued notices to the Sindh home secretary, the provincial police chief, DIG Crime and the Landhi SHO for August 28.
SI Zafar Iqbal has been keeping Salahuddin, the proprietor of Khan Autos, detained at Landhi police station since July 28, the petitioner, Ms Nasreen Salahuddin, had alleged.
She stated no case was registered against her husband, but he was unlawfully confined at the behest of Naveed Bashir Miandad, and brutally tortured by the SI.
The plaintiff had contacted police officials, but they neither secured the release of her husband nor took any action against the police officer. She appealed to the court to order the recovery of Salahuddin and take action against Iqbal.
