The attacks continue: Ex ANP worker killed

Seven others also lost their lives in separate incidents.

The law and order situation in various parts of the city, including Sohrab Goth, Abul Hassan Isphani Road, Ittehad Town, Quaidabad, Patel Para and Orangi Town, rapidly deteriorated after a former senior member of the Awami National Party (ANP) was gunned down on Monday. Apart from this, seven others lost their lives in separate acts of violence.


A former ANP president of  Hussain D’silva Town, Naseeb Khan, died after he was shot near Asghar Shah stadium, said the Shara-e-Noor Jahan police. The 45-year-old man was travelling in his Suzuki Alto when unidentified armed men on a motorcycle intercepted and shot him. He sustained four bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he succumbed to his injuries. Khan was also a member of the Pakhtun Action Committee’s Loya Jirga.

A number of people  from Orangi Town and Nazimabad were infuriated by the incident and came out to protest. They chanted slogans, pelted stones at passing vehicles and blocked traffic flow for hours. Some unidentified men also engaged in indiscriminate firing, forcing traders to shut down their shops. The angry mob also forcibly closed the office of the Board of Intermediate Education and attacked police mobiles as well as media personnel.

A heavy contingent of law enforcers was called to the tense area, but they were unable to bring the situation under control. Unidentified men also tried to set a truck on fire near Qasba Morr.

In a separate incident, a man was killed and two others were injured when unidentified armed men attacked a teashop in Block 22 of Federal B Industrial area. The slain man, Anwar Mehsud, was a construction worker and close aide to ANP leader Tariq. The two injured men were identified as Abdul Malik and Faizullah. In an unrelated incident, an unidentified young man was killed in Qasba Colony in Orangi Town. Another young man, identified as Amanat, was gunned down in Shershah. The police said that the victim was shot after he resisted robbers.

In a separate incident, Ibrahim, son of Rasheed, was killed after unidentified people stabbed him to death in the Metroville area of Organi. In an unrelated incident, a trader, identified as Zafar Iqbal, was shot and injured in Godhra Colony in New Karachi.

Bodies found

The body of an unidentified man was found in Bhains Colony, within the jurisdiction of the Sukkun police station. Another body was found in Gujjar nullah, within the jurisdiction of the Gulbahar police station. The body of a teenager was found in a water tank in Federal B Area.
