A doctor and a driving license office employee in Clifton were charged with fraud after they were allegedly caught taking bribes from a physically challenged-person who wished to obtain a driving licence.
Clifton police’s Mohammad Islam said that Dr Zafar had originally declared Faizan medically unfit for obtaining a driving licence. Undeterred, Faizan then allegedly bribed Dr Wahid Buksh to declare him “fit,” after conducting his medical test.
Faizan also gave money to Haris, who worked at the canteen of the Clifton driving licence branch, to allegedly elicit favours from him. Sub-inspector Samar Rizvi, who belonged to the vigilance department of the driving licence office, reported the case to authorities. FIR no. 103/2012 was registered under section 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code on Thursday. Police arrested Haris, but have yet to investigate Faizan and Dr Buksh.
