Contempt of court: Babar Awan indicted, refuses to accept verdict
Awan, however, refused to accept the verdict. “No law on contempt of court exists in the country,” said Awan.
The hearing was conducted by a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Earlier, Awan had tendered an unconditional apology to the court, whereas the chief justice said that the apology letter was a confession of crime by Awan.
The former law minister was prosecuted for contempt of court adjudication after he criticised an apex court verdict handed down on December 1, 2011, pertaining to the formation of a judicial commission to probe the Memogate scandal.

Awan will put the last nail in the coffin of the present judiciary in the Pakistan .

@Lala Gee: The fact: There was no PPP in the days of dictator Ayub, so PPP never supported him. The fact that ZAB left dictator Ayub and waged a mass movement against him is apology in itself. The masses accepted him and new PPP and rewarded them with majority in several election. We were all non-Muslims but we embraced Islam and cannot be faulted for doing the right thing. Never in the life of any Bhutto did they support any dictator ever. On the contrary the SC judges never missed a single chance of military takeover and endorsing it. They have been repeating their sunnah without fail each time. That is the big difference. You can change and evolve and come to the right decision not be a lota. Regards, Mirza

Honorable CJ is only hearing contempt court cases..... WHAT about the contempt of the country case....Criminals are ruling and SC is silent?

You are right nothing helped Babar even his apology, which is usually sufficient to calm down the etotistic judges. In fact the PCO judge used the apology as a proof of his guilt! In the US there are no comptempt of court outside the court. Unless sombody misbehaves in the court there is no such thing as comtemp. Thanks and regards, Mirza

If the contempt law does not exist, why in the first place he responded with excuses? Why did he not challenge his suspension of his lawyer practice in the SC and in the PBCA siting non-existant of contempt of law?
Only very petty minds with egos larger than themselves can feel contempted by difference of opinion, even if it is in matters concerning judiciary. Such decisions can only be interpreted as throttling of our basic right to have an opinion and need to express it, after all how can human mind be prevented from thinking and reflecting and any attempt at this is simply not on like any tyranny this also must be reisted with all the force to rpotest and our contempt.
Babar Awan is just another PPP jiyala who is devoid of every kind of self-respect, integrity and morality. These people lie through their teeth and trample every law under their feet, they even treat the highest judicial body of this country as they treat their serfs. These shameless people quote Quranic verses and hadiths as if they were the epitome of piety, in reality even iblees looks like a saint before these devils.

He deserves it. This man is a blight on name of professional lawyers.Lawyers are officers of court when they appear before any court.

Who follows the Law Mr. Babar? Its the edict of SC which is supreme in this country so no law required if his majesty thinks so it is so...Squinted & Skewed like always....Babar's abstaining from evidence in PM's case even couldn't help him earn IMC's approval...
Luckily Dr Awan has an american PhD from the Motown University.....
