The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Selector Mohammad Ilyas left for Dubai to consult the team management over the wicket-keeper’s inclusion – and other matters – for the series starting February 13. Adnan’s half-century in the first Test that helped Pakistan establish a first-innings lead thrust him into consideration.
Adnan, who has played 12 Tests but only three ODIs, has been overlooked for shorter formats with brother Umar Akmal donning the gloves in Twenty20s and Sarfraz Ahmed being preferred in ODIs.
Sarfraz’s inconsistent show, however, failed to convince the management to consider him as a long-term prospect.
“The selection committee is interested in retaining Adnan [for the limited-overs leg],” a selector told The Express Tribune. “But final selection will be made after discussion with the team management in Dubai before the final Test.”
Meanwhile, the likelihood of Adnan being considered for the ODIs and Twenty20s was also hinted at by a team official who said, “Adnan’s performing well in the series, he’s done well under pressure and that can earn him the nod ahead of Sarfraz”.
Kamran still missed
However, the official admitted there was still a vacuum since Kamran Akmal, Pakistan’s regular wicket-keeper and Adnan’s brother, was dumped after the World Cup.
Kamran kept wickets across all three formats but a poor show behind the stumps in the mega event led to his ouster.
“Because of his batting experience, Kamran is the best among all the probable wicket-keepers we have. His wicket-keeping isn’t that bad and he was unfortunate to drop catches in crucial matches.”
Pacer Sohail Tanvir and Shahid Afridi appear certain to be included for the limited-overs squad, while a debate could arise on the inclusion of former captain Shoaib Malik, who knocked on the selectors’ doors with a timely century in the Pentangular Cup.

No body can fill shoes of kamran akmal interms of batting ,yes except tests, i cant find any reason for not selecting him in odis and t20s ,after all he is the leading run scorer for our country in the t20s
Don't even think about bringing Kamran back
I bet Ilyas will not select a third genuine opening batsmen other than Hafeez and Farhat because it would mean that Farhat will have to sit out
Sohail Tanvir is good for T20 but not for ODIs. He is unfit and doesn't look good in ODIs. Shoaib Malik is past story now. We need a genuine Allrounder other than Shahid Afridi. To make up good ODI Team.
It would be a huge mistake to include Adnan in the one day. I am also afraid that Imran Farhat might be included since his father in law is the cheif selector, that would be a even bigger mistake.
The real problem is not the wicketkeeper, its the middle order. Younis should not be made part of the ODI team. He is a world class batsman but only in tests. His place should be given to someone more talented like Asad Shafiq or Azhar Ali as they both are young and can play for years to come. The inclusion if Shoaib Malik disappoints me. How many more chances do we have to give him?
Drop a player like Imran Farhat such a liability to this Pakistani Team don't know how he is in the squads of all three formats and no one even the ex players are making any comment about him. Bring Nasir Jamshed or Ahmed Shahzad.
There is no need to play a regular keeper, Umar is doing a fine job. Bring Hammad Azam in the Team.
No no no please keep Umar Akmal in one dayers, he is improving alot in keeping plus you get a full one spot for adding extra bowler or batsman according to situation.
