Keke Palmer is reflecting on her experiences as a child star on Nickelodeon and Disney, highlighting how these roles contributed to her career success.
Appearing on The Toast, hosted by Claudia and Jackie Oshry, Palmer shared fond memories of her breakout role in Nickelodeon’s True Jackson, VP, calling it the project that "changed her life." She also noted her time starring in Disney’s Jump In, a rare crossover for young stars at the time.
Discussing the differences between the two networks, Palmer praised Disney’s immersive storytelling approach, describing it as a "whole universe" that creates lasting magic for its young stars. In contrast, she shared that Nickelodeon focused more on competitive pay and less on the overall experience. "It was kind of like, 'Come in and get this check,'" she remarked.
Palmer also shared a lighthearted memory of being slimed repeatedly during a Nickelodeon promotional shoot, humorously recalling how challenging it was to manage her hair during the process. Despite the tough moments, Palmer credited both networks for shaping her path in the entertainment industry.
Fans can hear more of Palmer’s insights on the November 19 episode of The Toast, streaming at 1 p.m. ET.
