Rodrigo Bentancur, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, has been suspended for seven matches and fined £100,000 by an independent Regulatory Commission for breaching FA Rule E3.
The charge stems from a media interview in which Bentancur allegedly acted improperly, using abusive and/or insulting language, bringing the game into disrepute.
The breach was deemed “aggravated” under FA Rule E3.2 due to references to nationality, race, or ethnic origin, either explicitly or implied.
Despite denying the allegations, the Regulatory Commission found Bentancur guilty after a hearing.
The sanctions, including the suspension and fine, were imposed following the panel’s review of the evidence. Full written reasons for the decision have been made publicly available, providing further details on the case.
