Adam Driver has seemingly put an end to hopes of returning as Kylo Ren, confirming that his proposed Star Wars film centred on Ben Solo is unlikely to move forward.

During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, the actor was asked whether he could see himself playing the character again. Driver responded, “Yeah, it is over. No more Star Wars.”

The comments follow the rejection of The Hunt for Ben Solo, a standalone film that Driver developed with filmmaker Steven Soderbergh. The project was reportedly presented to Lucasfilm, where the creative team received a positive response to its concept before taking it to Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman.

However, the executives reportedly rejected the screenplay, questioning how Ben Solo could still be alive following the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Driver previously revealed that the team had spent several years developing the film. The screenplay was written by Driver, Soderbergh, Scott Burns and Rebecca Blunt. Speaking about the experience, the actor said the creative team had worked on it “really and earnestly” and described the script as “really good”.

When asked whether he would return if the project were revived, Driver said he would be open to it, but stressed that the decision was not his to make. He added that he believed “the ship has sailed”.

The actor also acknowledged the passionate response from fans following news of the film’s rejection. Supporters organised a campaign that included flying a banner reading “Save The Hunt for Ben Solo” over Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.

Soderbergh has also indicated that the project is unlikely to happen, suggesting in April that it would have moved forward if it were going to be made. For now, Driver’s latest remarks appear to close the door on his return to the franchise.
