Justin Timberlake reportedly wanted his former girlfriend Britney Spears to participate in his upcoming documentary series, but the singer is said to have declined the invitation.

The 45-year-old singer is preparing to release a four-part tell-all docuseries on Apple TV in December.

Following reports about the project, a source told journalist Rob Shuter's Naughty But Nice Substack on Wednesday, November 4, that Spears, 44, had been approached about appearing in the documentary but turned down the opportunity.

"Justin may genuinely want her involved, but the optics are terrible," the source said, referring to Spears' revelations about their relationship in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me.

In the book, Spears discussed their relationship and its aftermath, including her claim that she became pregnant by Timberlake before having an abortion. She also described the emotional impact of their break-up.

"After everything Britney has said about how their breakup affected her, this could look like another attempt to use her story to rehabilitate his image," the insider added. "She has worked too hard to reclaim her voice to become part of somebody else's comeback."

Timberlake is reportedly expected to address some of Spears' comments in the upcoming series. However, the source claimed that the singer has no interest in revisiting their relationship on camera.

"Britney has already been incredibly honest about what happened," the source said. "She doesn't need to sit in front of a camera and relive it all over again, especially in a documentary centered on Justin."

The insider also suggested that Spears' first major on-camera appearance since the end of her conservatorship in 2021 should focus on her own life and future rather than her former relationship.

Directed by Fisher Stevens, the documentary will reportedly feature other notable figures, including Janet Jackson, who is expected to discuss the wardrobe malfunction during her and Timberlake's performance at the 2004 Super Bowl.
