KARACHI:

Karachi Development Authority launched a large-scale anti-encroachment operation in Surjani Town sectors 10 and 13 to clear more than 100 acres of government land from illegal constructions and encroachments.

During the operation, officials faced strong resistance from unidentified individuals who allegedly resorted to stone-pelting and aerial firing, creating panic in the area.

Additional police personnel were called in to control the situation and assist enforcement teams.

According to KDA officials, more than 25 acres of land were reclaimed on the first day of the operation, including the demolition of temporary and permanent structures as well as several booking offices. KDA Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui said operations against encroachments and land grabbers would continue without discrimination and no illegal occupation of KDA land would be tolerated. Officials said the ongoing campaign was part of decisions taken during a recent meeting chaired by Nasir Hussain Shah.
