Victoria Beckham has described the making of her Netflix docuseries Victoria Beckham as an unexpectedly emotional experience, saying the process felt like “a year of intense therapy”.

Speaking at the TIME100 Summit in New York City, Beckham reflected on how the three part series, released in October 2025, required her to relinquish a level of control she had long maintained in both her personal life and business career. She explained that allowing cameras behind the scenes of her fashion brand and private world led to moments of vulnerability she had not anticipated.

Beckham said she initially approached the project with what she called a perfectionist mindset, but gradually realised she could not manage every detail once filming began. That shift, she noted, changed her perspective on both her career and her public image. The former Spice Girls star added that stepping back from control ultimately helped her reassess her journey from pop stardom to fashion entrepreneur.

The series Victoria Beckham explores her evolution from global music fame with Spice Girls to establishing her own luxury fashion label. It also includes personal reflections on the challenges of running a business in the public eye, particularly during periods when her brand faced financial uncertainty and heavy media scrutiny.

During the same discussion, Beckham acknowledged how public perception has often shaped narratives around her life and career. She noted that she has frequently been subject to speculation since her teenage years in the spotlight, first as a member of one of the world’s most successful pop groups and later as the wife of former footballer David Beckham.

The docuseries also touches on the balance between her professional ambitions and family life, including raising four children. Beckham emphasised that revisiting earlier chapters of her life through archival footage and interviews brought a new emotional weight to her experiences, allowing her to see her progression in a different light.

Beckham also addressed how both she and her husband have dealt with sustained public attention over the years, saying that learning to ignore external commentary has been an important part of maintaining stability. She explained that constant scrutiny has followed her since her early career, making resilience a necessary part of her personal development.

The release of the docuseries has been widely discussed for its candid tone, with viewers noting its more personal approach compared with earlier portrayals of Beckham in the media. While she has long been associated with discipline and privacy, the series presents a more reflective version of her journey, particularly in relation to identity and self perception.

Beckham concluded that looking back on her life through the documentary process allowed her to recognise achievements she had previously overlooked, adding that she felt a renewed sense of pride in her career and personal growth.
