Production is underway on Sundowning, a new psychological horror-thriller from Spooky Pictures and Image Nation, with filming currently taking place in Vancouver, according to a report by Deadline.

The film features a cast led by Elizabeth Dulau, known for her role in Andor, alongside Susanne Wuest, Rukiya Bernard and Robbie G.K., recognised for Heated Rivalry. The project marks the second directorial effort from filmmaker Ian McDonald.

Sundowning follows a young musician struggling with gerontophobia, or the fear of ageing and death, which strains her relationship with her dying parents. Seeking redemption, she takes a job at a remote end-of-life care facility, only to uncover unsettling secrets hidden beneath its seemingly peaceful environment. The film explores themes of guilt, mortality and psychological trauma within a horror framework.

The production is part of an ongoing collaboration between Spooky Pictures and Image Nation, aimed at developing character-driven genre films for global audiences. Producers on the project include Steven Schneider, Roy Lee and Simmy Wolf, with executive producers Rami Yasin and Ben Ross overseeing development.

Director McDonald, who previously contributed to Woman of the Hour, is also developing additional projects, including a forthcoming thriller for Netflix.

With a growing ensemble cast and a concept rooted in psychological horror, Sundowning is expected to attract attention as filming continues, positioning itself as a notable entry in the 2026 horror film slate.
