Rosamund Pike admits her ‘Doom’ movie with Dwayne Johnson was ‘one of the worst films ever made’
Rosamund Pike says her 2005 film ‘Doom’ was ‘one of the worst films ever made’ and feared it could end her career

Rosamund Pike is looking back on one of the earliest films of her career with blunt honesty, calling the 2005 video game adaptation Doom “one of the worst films ever made” and admitting she once feared the project could derail her career.
The actor made the remarks during an appearance on the podcast How to Fail with Elizabeth Day, where she reflected on joining the action film shortly after gaining attention for her role in the James Bond movie Die Another Day.
Pike said the opportunity arrived while she was working on the period drama Pride & Prejudice. “When I was making ‘Pride & Prejudice’ and I was having great fun in my cornfields in my bonnet, I get a call to be in an action franchise,” she explained. “They were making a cinema version, a narrative version of the video game ‘Doom.’ And I think in my bonnet, in my field of hay bales, ‘Yeah, I can do anything. I can jump on this hay bale in my crinoline, so I can certainly go and kill some zombies on Mars.’”
The film, directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, starred Dwayne Johnson and Karl Urban as part of a squad of marines battling demon like creatures on Mars. Pike admitted she quickly realised she felt completely out of place on the action heavy set.
“So suddenly I’m in this film with the Rock, and I realize how utterly ill equipped I am to be an action star,” she said. “[There were] macho guys. There were weights on the set. Every time a gun was brought out, it was kind of like a holy relic for the ‘Doom’ fans. I was just out of my comfort zone, out of my league, out of my depth.”

The film ultimately struggled both critically and commercially, earning poor reviews and grossing less than 60 million dollars worldwide. Pike acknowledged the project’s failure with unusual frankness.
“It was an absolute bomb. I mean, I probably could have ended my career,” she said. “It was just probably one of the worst films ever made. I mean, it was a catastrophe. I don’t read the reviews, but you get the sense like you’re lucky to have survived that one.”
Despite the rocky moment early in her filmography, Pike went on to build a successful career across film and television, earning acclaim for roles in projects such as Gone Girl and I Care a Lot.
