Selena Gomez makes directorial debut in wizards finale
Selena Gomez returns as Alex Russo and directs the premiere as Wizards reboot ends with season 3 on Disney+

Disney+ and Disney Channel have confirmed that the reboot series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will conclude with its third and final season this summer.
The limited four-episode season will feature Selena Gomez returning as Alex Russo, reprising her role from the original Wizards of Waverly Place series. Gomez will also make her directorial debut, directing the premiere episode of the season.
The series stars David Henrie as Justin Russo, Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie, Alkaio Thiele as Roman Russo, Max Matenko as Milo Russo, Taylor Cora as Winter, and Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo. The Season 3 storyline follows Billie, who, still recovering from Alex’s absence at the end of Season 2, must reunite with her long-lost father to rescue her mother. The family’s combined magical abilities are central to confronting the season’s antagonistic forces.
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas return as writers and executive producers, alongside Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Rick Williams, Gomez, and Henrie. The original Wizards of Waverly Place aired on Disney Channel from 2007 to 2012 and was instrumental in launching Gomez’s career as both an actress and recording artist.
The revival has been well-received on digital platforms, accumulating over 101 million views on Disney Channel’s official YouTube account. Gomez’s return as both a guest star and director marks a significant milestone in her career, while providing fans of the Russo family a high-profile conclusion to the beloved franchise.
The final season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is expected to premiere later this summer on Disney+ and Disney Channel.
