Paul Walter Hauser is reportedly being considered for a role in Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series, with sources suggesting the actor has received an offer to play a surprising character connected to the iconic Great Dane.

According to reports, Hauser has been offered the role of Scooby’s “original owner,” a character that could expand the backstory of the beloved mystery-solving dog in the new series. The live-action adaptation, which received a script-to-series commitment in 2025, is being developed by Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions, with writers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg leading the project.

Casting for the series has slowly begun to take shape. Veteran voice actor Frank Welker is expected to voice Scooby-Doo, while McKenna Grace has reportedly been cast as Daphne Blake.

The project is believed to be titled Scooby-Doo: Origins and will explore how the Mystery Inc. team first came together. The story follows Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, where they become involved in a mysterious case involving a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.

They eventually join forces with Velma and a mysterious new student named Freddy to investigate the haunting case, which could reveal hidden secrets among the group and ultimately bring the iconic mystery-solving team together.

Production on the series is expected to begin filming in Atlanta in late April and continue through September.

If Hauser officially joins the project, it would mark another major role for the Emmy-winning actor, who is widely known for playing Raymond “Stingray” Porter in Cobra Kai. He has also voiced a character in the animated Netflix film Orion and the Dark and is set to portray comedian Chris Farley in an upcoming biopic.
