First footage shows Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Green Lanterns in HBO Max's buddy cop detective series

HBO Max has released the first teaser footage from the highly anticipated DC Studios series, Lanterns, offering fans their first look at Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, both members of the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps.
The preview footage, shared via social media, showcases the series' tone as a buddy cop detective drama. In one striking scene, Hal Jordan seemingly tests John Stewart's readiness to wield the Green Lantern power ring by driving a car off a cliff, forcing Stewart to use his abilities in a life-or-death emergency. The clip promises a blend of superhero spectacle and gritty police procedural elements.

According to DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, the series follows Jordan and Stewart as they investigate a dark murder mystery on Earth. The project is described as a grounded, character-driven story within the larger DC Universe framework, combining intergalactic lore with Earth-based crime drama.
Safran also confirmed that the series launch has been strategically moved to late summer 2026 on HBO Max. This places its arrival after the June 26 theatrical release of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow next year. Speaking about the delay, Safran indicated the adjustment is to ensure Lanterns receives the "right lead in, the right promotion" for maximum impact.
Lanterns is set to further expand James Gunn's reinvigorated DC Universe. The series will also feature the return of Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, reprising his role from the upcoming Superman film. Additionally, Ulrich Thomsen has been cast as the villainous Sinestro, the notorious Green Lantern turned enemy.
The teaser has generated significant buzz among DC fans, who have been eager to see Chandler and Pierre embody the iconic characters. With its unique blend of detective noir and superhero mythology, Lanterns is positioning itself as a cornerstone of DC Studios' streaming slate for 2026.
